Attributed to John Dale,
Circa 1820-30.

The triple spill vase on an oval base depicts a young shepherd sitting against a tree trunk with his hat hanging on a short branch from the tree above him. In his arms he holds his dog. To either side of him stands an oversized ram and sheep. Unusually in front of him sits a small lamb. The base hollow.

Holding the Past, The William Herbert and Nancy Hunt Collection of Early English Pottery Figures, Myrna Schkolne, Page 145.

Staffordshire Figures, 1780-1840, Manufacturers, Pastimes, & Work, Volume 1, Page 207, Figure 27.167 & Fig 27.168 for the model both with an attribution to John Dale. Figure 27.167 has the shepherd's hat handing on a branch as with this figure but like figure 27.168, there are two sheep not a sheep and a goat and a more oval base as this figure.
