Very fine Louis XVI mahogany brass-mounted and satinwood inlaid bleu turquin marble tilt-top octagonal tripod table, circa 1790. The beauty of this gueridon cannot be overstated: Mellow and warm in color and of superb proportions, this piece is emblematic of chic palatial French design in the late 18th century. Bleu turquin is a fine and highly regarded marble, referred to in Italy as Bardiglio. It is an Italian marble that is grey blue with white and black streaks. During the Louis XVI period in France it was used for the finest pieces.
