A very good eight seater mahogany and satinwood single pedestal dining table attributable to Gillow. The large rectangular mahogany top is cross banded in West Indian satinwood with ebony stringing. The tilt top table sits on a solid turned gun barrel pedestal with four carved out-swept legs terminating with beautifully cast brass castors that are recorded in the Gillow sketch books.
Note: The distinctive design of the hipped sabre legs can be seen on a table at Glin Castle, County Limerick, Ireland, the table being illustrated in 'Great Irish Houses and Castles' by J. O'Brien & D. Guinness, published in London 1992, p.152. Gillow supplied furniture to Glin Castle in the early 19th Century
