Legs united by a turned stretcher. Structurally very sound.

This George IV ebonised X frame dressing stool is derived from patterns in Thomas Hope’s ‘Household furniture and Interior Decoration’. It also corresponds to a pattern later featured in the ‘Estimate Sketch Book of Gillows of London and Lancaster’. This particular stool would date from the early part of the 19th century due to the construction and re-enforcement techniques of the seat rails. Seat approx. 18″ square.

See Gillows Sketch for a related stool ( Westminster City Archives ). See also P. Agius, Ackermans ‘Regency Furniture & Interiors’. The Repository of Arts 1809-1828 plate 5 “Drawing Room Tabouret” footstool, 1809.
