An early 20th century George V purple leather desk correspondence case or folder.

The case, in almost unused condition, when closed has a brass locking catch and in the top left hand corner in gilt lettering 'Helen 1914'.

The interior is made from black leather and comprises a central writing area with blotting paper, a pen and a pencil made from brass and ivory.

Above the blotter is an ink bottle with locking spring cap and a pen storage box.

To the left hand side are storage pockets for stamps, ink eraser, pen nib wipes, paper and envelopes.

To the right hand side are more storage pockets for an ivory letter opener, note board, notelets, a 'Where is it' note book (unused) and more paper and envelope compartments.

The case is excellent quality and must have been given as a present in 1914 and rarely, if ever, used.

The case came out of the 'Hermitage Estate' in Hexham, Northumberland and has some stationery printed 'The Leazes, Hexham, Northumberland' with a telephone number 20!

The case was made by J.C. Vickery Regent St London and is stamped with the maker's name on the leather of the paper knife holder. (Circa 1914)
