It is a pleasure to offer a very fine striking Vienna style floor standing clock which can be firmly attributed to the famous Lenzkirch company from the Black Forest area of Germany.
Lenzkirch clocks are sought after by collectors as they are generally regarded as the finest of the German clock factories and produced outstanding clocks which were several times the price of their (well regarded ) competitors but the quality was such that their sales continued to increase.
German factory clocks differ from hand made Austrian clocks but Lenzkirch are the exception to the rule as their quality is sublime.
The second beat clocks are particularly uncommon but this is the first striking example I have seen.
It is well known that Lenzkirchs early clocks were unsigned and the movement sourced from France and finished in Germany.Soon afterwards they manufactured their own movements based on the French design and anyone who has owned these clocks can recognise the typical features of this manufacturer such as the dial with the copper coloured bezels , the mounting bracket ,hands and pendulum are distinctive as is the architectural style case which was used on their wall clocks.
The 8 day weight driven outside count wheel movement also demonstrates Lenzkich traits such as the anchor bridge and pallets. The gut line hooks are pivoted and the use of a 5 spoke screwed escape wheel. There is an excellent book called "Lenzkirch - the unsigned story " which discusses these matters in great detail.
This particular clock would date circa 1860 (perhaps a few years earlier)
The clock is beautiful made and has very elegant and restrained proportions. It separates into three pieces for ease of transportation
The break fronted base section is very nice indeed

This clock is totally original but unfortunately there are too many people selling modern reproductions to customers.

I offer a full money back guarantee as to the authenticity of my Vienna clocks.

I also welcome any expert appraisal whatsoever.

Obviously, any potential clients are very welcome to view the clock prior to purchase (or pay on delivery)to ensure that they are satisfied with their purchase

As you can see from the photographs this is an impressive clock being 8ft, 28 inches at its widest point and 16 inches wide in the centre deep It has a oak back board which shows the superb pendulum to its best advantage.

Speaking of the pendulum,it is typical of Lenzkirchs second beating pendulums .It has a very heavy brass backed lead filled bob and an ebonised rod .The fittings are superb.

The 10 inch porcelain dial is in lovely original condition (it has the faintest of hairline crack on the centre dial which is so faint I was unable to photograph it !)
.It has been professional stripped and serviced and operates perfectly.

The condition is excellent and there is no wood worm. The original finish is present and the clock has not been re polished. There are some age related marks s as you would expect on any item which is 170 years old and has not been re finished .It is ready to go straight into the home..

The proportions are perfect and is worthy of gracing the wall of the most discerning collector.

The sides of the case are glazed and all the glass appears to be original.

The original winding crank is present.
Hopefully the images will show show interested parties all they need to see but prospective buyers are very welcome to view.

This clock is much nicer in the flesh as my photographic skills are very poor. The oak case has an excellent colour and patination. There are two filled holes in the centre of the backboard where the clock has been previously screwed to the wall

If the asking price is paid in full I will ,deliver the clock free of charge in England ,Wales and the Scottish lowlands and provide a 12 months guarantee.

Should a lesser offer be accepted it will be a trade sale with the clock being sold as described and shipping costs being the responsibility of the buyer.

I will ship this clock worldwide but it is massive and very heavy.

It will need to be sent by specialist courier.
