This was made to celebrate the 15th anniversary of a wedding dated Feb 1732 as engraved on the bowl. It was not until 1937 that anniversaries were named after gifts. In the 18th century on the first, fifth, tenth, fifteenth, twenty fifth and 50th anniversaries were celebrated. In the low countries the 15th anniversary was known as the “good anniversary” quite simply because it was believed that the children would no longer be a concern and that life would easier with children to share the burden of labour.
