The decoration of exotic birds was added in London, probably in the studio of James Giles. This style of bird painting can sometimes be attributed to Henri-Joseph Duvivier who worked at Chelsea before moving to Tournai in Belgium where he became the head painter. The painting on this teapot is closely associated with his style but is probably by a different hand.
Spout neatly restuck.
