An original White Star Line, RMS Olympic A'la carte restaurant walnut dining room chair.

The A' la carte' restaurants onboard the White Star's RMS Olympic & Titanic were the ultimate dining experience of their time. !st class passengers paid a premium to dine in them, whilst entertained by a full time quartet. During the 1920’s & 30’s the Olympic was regarded by the wealthy and famous as the only way to travel across the atlantic. Charlie Chaplin describing the restaurant on the Olympic as 'the best in the world, on or off the ocean'.

During its commission it was estimated that the RMS Olympic steamed nearly 1 million miles, making this chair and the other few survining example the most travelled pieces of furniture in history. It is estimted that only around 100 of these chairs survive today.
Re-upholstered, but the original hessian ans tacks to the underside.
Reputedly from a house in Northern Ireland, acquired by the former owners at the dockside auction in 1935 after the vessel was de-commissioned.Thereafter acquired by a specialist dealer, thence into a private collection.
