This fine mid 19th century stick barometer features lovely flame figured mahogany veneers.

The case has a canted pediment and lappet carved frieze above the bow-glazed scale. The silvered brass vernier scale is calibrated in barometric inches and signed Watkins & Hill, 5 Charing Cross, LONDON .

The bow-fronted trunk has a mahogany vernier adjustment to the throat, over a Fahrenheit and Centigrade scale mercury thermometer and ogee moulded swollen base with level adjustment screw to the cavetto moulded underside.
Overhauled and guaranteed for 3 years.
Francis Watkins and Joseph Hill are recorded as makers of a diverse range of scientific instruments trading from 5 Charing Cross, London 1819-56.
