The case is an oak carcass veneered in mahogany. The colour and patina are exceptional with a superb original surface. Both movement and case are a fine example of an sleepy untouched clock, nicely looked after through the years. The brass case fittings are also in a like condition, each of the doors has brass rod pinned into recessed edges and the sides are fitted with fish-scale frets backed with faded silk. Often the carrying handle of this style of half-round case sits upon a raised pad but here the top is a single piece piece of nicely figured veneer with the handle placed straight upon it. This veneer has some cracks running across it commensurate with shrinkage in the carcass. These not unsightly and typical cracks run along the joints in the construction of the oak frame and add to the charm.
John Meek is recorded as working at 7 Worship Street, Finsbury.
