An early 19th century nautical themed mahogany lonogcase clock from the West of England. The case, of typical west country style has a swan neck pediment, rope twist side columns and crossbanding around the glazed door and edging for the trunk door with canted corners. The figured mahogany base has bracket feet. The 14 inch beautifully painted dial has embossed brass hands and seascape corner paintings and within the arch is a fortification with a diorama of a rocking galleon that swings in time with the pendulum. The dial is signed by the maker John Benham of Collumpton. It has an 8 day movement that strikes the hours on a bell. John Benham is listed as a clockckmaker in 1830.
In excellent condition, the case has been repolished, the dial has been professionally cleaned, the movement has been fully serviced and is guaranteed for 12 months. If you would like a video clp of this clock striking and ticking showing the rocking ship please email us. Delivery and set up is available.
