The rectangular top with gilt tooled green hide within banding to moulded edge. Wide central drawers unite the two pedestals, to the front with four graduated mahogany lined drawers and turned handles and to the reverse a pair of panelled cupboard doors opening to document slides, all standing upon plinth bases that conceal castors. The desk features a central locking system and bears a brass plate engraved: Safrans patent drawer fastening. The locks, marked J Bramah and crown 124 Piccadilly, have slots which date them to between 1805 - 1813. This fine desk was formerly from the Estate Office of the Duchy of Lancaster.
