Charles Ambrose was a portrait painter who worked in London and Birmingham
He exhibited his paintings from 1824 to 1848; 30 at the Royal Academy; 2 at the British Institution and 49 at the Society of British Artists. In 1829 Ambrose also exhibited 4 paintings at the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists and these too, were portraits and figure subjects.
Many of his paintings were of Gentleman and Officers in uniform, however he did paint a few lady portraits. One of his portraits was of the dramatist James Sheridan Knowles.
While in London Ambrose lived at 75 Newman Street, 139 Strand and 4 Chenies Street.
