The father wearing a colourful hat standing beside his wife who is holding a parasol in her right hand, supporting a child on a small table, another child and a monkey in the foreground.

The attribution of Meissen chinoiserie groups on stylistic grounds is complicated due to the collaboration between sculptors. However, this group is more boldly modelled than the slightly later, more romantic chinoiserie figures attributable to Reinicke.

Reiner Ruckert identifies a group entitled ‘Japaniches Libes Paar’ in Kaendler’s taxa (overtime records) of September 1745, which is somewhat related to our group, in particular the distinctive multi-coloured hat of the man. Ruckert suggests that this model may have been made in collaboration with Reinicke and Meyer.
Flaking to the blue enamel on the back of the ladies belt has been touched in. Chips to some of the flowers and leaves on the base restored
