Chinese 16th century blue and white jar made at the kilns at Jingdezhen during the reign of the Emperor Wanli. often this shape is referred to a melon shaped jar or gourd shape. This is due to the lobed sides.
It is a more unusual decoration to it as the jar is painted with two squirrels amongst pomegranates and the foliage. It is more usual for these jars to be painted vines and grapes
The neck is painted with a key fret border and around the base there is a band of flame shaped lappets

Squirrels amongst vines or pomegranates means a wish for many sons.
