Ming Wanli blue and white porcelain saucer dish. Painted and potted in the Kraak style. the painting to the centre is rare and the colour is excellent. The dish is well potted with a deep side and wide everted rim.
The centre shows the Immortal Damo crossing the river on a stalk of a reed. The scene is surrounded by a band of geometric design with stylized Ruyi heads. the rim is painted with shaped panels of flowers associated with the Emperor and auspicious emblems.
many Kraak dishes of this size are warped and have a [poor colour but this is flat and with no visible warping being excellently potted. A good strong vibrant cobalt has been used to paint with and it has been fired in a good kiln as the colour is even and strong. Made at Jingdezhen c1610
Overall for a piece of this size the condition is good. When potted there was some kiln grit to the foot but small, and there is some sand/grit in the glaze. the underside has a glaze flake and more visible from the underside there is a small chip and related hair crack
