Late Ming early Transitional blue and white porcelain Kraak klapmutsen bowl made during the reign of the last Ming Emperor Chongzhen for export to Europe, The Netherlands. Made at the kilns at Jingdezhen from where it would have been transported overland and sea to the Dutch trading posts in 'Batavia'.
The centre is painted with scrolls and their carrying cases, symbols associated with the scholar, but one enjoyed in Europe as a design.
The sides are painted with Taotie mask shaped panels of fruit and flowers
Excellent colour and painting.
\the shape was much more a western shape as it allowed for the resting of the European shaped spoon on the rim
perfect although there is a drilled hole to the footrim which often happened on arrival in Europe
Private English collection
Diameter 14.50 (5.71 inches)
