Item Description / Dealer Expertise

D174. A beautifully proportioned and fine quality miniature 8 day weight driven longcase clock, circa 1900.

This lovely little clock standing just 41.5" (106cms) high, has been made to the highest standards with great attention to detail, the brick-work base, for instance, with canted front corners, the quarter columns to either side of the trunk and the attention given to the swan-neck pediment are all signs of its fine quality.

The bell striking movement, which has been made in 18th century style, has four attractively turned balluster pillars, rivetted to the back-plate and pinned at the front and smooth barrels.
Rack striking on a bell is employed. The plates measure a little over 4.5" X 3.5".Brass cased weights are employed and the steel rodded pendulum has a lenticular brass bob.

The brass dial, in the style of around 1740, has a fairly narrow silvered chapter ring with roman hour and arabic minute numerals, together with half hour marks. Decorative blued steel hands are employed and the dial centre is well matted. In the arch is a circular silvered plaque signed Jn Uffington, London.
