Month duration table regulator with gridiron pendulum
c. 1790 France
Offered by Derval Antiques
This mahogany table regulator is glazed on all sides with fine engine turned and fire-gilt borders to the glass, except at the back.. Well executed gilded drapery trails down from either side of the dial, which is surrounded by a well executed bezel. The clock rests on gilded block feet.
The convex enamelled dial has blued steel centre sweep seconds and date hands and fire gilt ones for the minutes and hours. It is signed to the lower half Le Roy à Paris and this signature is repeated on the backplate, which is roughly 6" square. A large externally mounted skeletonised 24 hour count-wheel is used together with two very substantial mainsprings.
The well executed gridiron pendulum has knife-edge suspension and is provided with a retractable steel pointer which sits within a graduated beat-plate, cut-out to the centre and engraved “degrees du circle”. Beat regulation is provided.
This regulator has been photographed “as received” but will be fully overhauled prior to sale.
