Mrs Anne Mee c1820
A portrait miniature of a lady wearing a colourful turban, a maroon dress with a white bodice edged in pink scalloped lace. Her dark hair is worn in tight curls and her multicoloured turban is adorned with large pearls.

Watercolour on ivory in an oval gilt metal frame.

Anne Mee (nee Foldstone) c1775-1851

Anne's father was a portrait painter and she started painting herself at the age of 12, later studying under George Romney. She was a prolific artist and with a fortuitous introduction to Queen Charlotte she painted miniatures of the Queen and her daughters. There is a miniature by her in the Wallace Collection and several in the collection of the present Queen. A self portrait of Mrs Mee and her family can be seen in the V & A Museum, London.
