Stuart enameled skull ring. Formed from a central oval bezel flowing horizontally across the finger, containing an enameled plaque depicting a skull, decoratively enhanced with fine hatching and engraved initials 'F.G' to the brow, proceeding to enameled trumpeting shoulders enriched with stylised floral motifs and terminating in a solid D-shape shank. Tested yellow gold, circa 1675, accompanied by an X-ray fluorescence analysis report stating the composition of the metal.

Reputedly discovered in Chichester, this piece is likely to have been commissioned as a memorial ring commemorating the death of Francis Goater, an important merchant and alderman who served as Mayor of Chichester in 1668.
