Rudolf Geyling was the son of the Viennese historical painter Franz Geyling. After being granted a scholarship from the Vienna Academy for his "Hagen and Danube Nymphs" painting, he was sent to study art in Italy, where he stayed between 1872 and 1873. He was also well known as a glass painter, whose works can be viewed in various Austrian churches such as Vienna's Cathedral of St. Stephen.
