An early Watkin Owen of Llanrwst longcase clock in an oak case with architectural pediment, dated c. 1777.

A superb quality piece, it has those features you would expect of Watkin Owen

- the 5 pillar 8-day movement with thick plates and finely cut wheels.

- a well-engraved substantially made 12-inch brass dial with bold numerals, subsidiary seconds and a circular date aperture, with finely cast brass spandrels to the corners.

The solid oak case features a hood with architectural pediment over a blind-fret frieze. The trunk has a shaped door flanked by quarter cut reeded columns. Although most had centre finials, this clock pediment has never been drilled, and was therefore intended to do without.
To be overhauled and guaranteed for 3 years.
The Owen family of Llanrwst, a small market town in the Conway valley, are probably the most prolific and best known family of 18th century clockmakers in Wales.
