Painting oil on canvas with dimensions of 58 x 70 without frame, 77 x 89 with frame.

The painting is well preserved and represents a pleasant hilly landscape from a river bordered by a left trunk and a village, on the other side you can see the ancient ruins of the scene will also recognize a ram, a sheep, a cow, a sheepdog and, crouching on the right, the guardian who takes care of the flocks.

Marked are the style of character from this pleasant point of view located in the air that highlights the work of a talented landscape artist who acts in the best Transalpina tradition, not without references to Italian culture, in particular that of the Roman and Emilian seventeenth century; The research is an ultramontabile taste individually dissolved in a pictorial verve typically Po in this case, emphasized by the projects of full-bodied with rich colors and dazzling brushstrokes. The work reveals a serene and imaginative way of composing, characteristic of non-Italian artists trained in the wake of the Gaspard Dughet tradition.

The soft tones that contrast the nuances and brightness of the sky and clouds on the "natural" make us think that the painting is the work of Philip Peter Roos known as Rosa Tivoli (Frankfurt 1655 - Rome 1706). The famous landscape gardener, son and pupil of Johasnn Heinrich Roos, once moved to Rome, became a friend of Giacinto Brandi and eventually became "Italian"; being good and quick to paint, he was nicknamed "Lightning" and "Mercury". He moved from Tivoli and was very active in the papal capital and confirmation of the indemnity will be useful to compare our painting with other works, such as Landscape with Shepherd, Dog, Horse, Goats and Ruins (Liverpool Walker Art Gallery), Landscape with shepherd and bovari (Brescia, Pinacoteca tosio Martinengo) very similar to our point of view for this almost pre-romantic interpretation of a friendly and picturesque nature.
