An Art Nouveau pottery beer stein or jug in a pewter mount produced by the Orivit factory, Cologne, Germany.
The ceramic body, attributed to Villeroy & Boch, is white inside and outside decorated with green hops on red-brown background. The pewter takes on the motive of barley.
The lower part of the vessel is framed with six raised areas, which are edged with ears of barley. A narrow band of pewter leads up the front to join the mount of the neck, while at the rear the handle connects both parts together. Below the lip the collar has a molded band of ears of barley. A flat lid with thumb rest completes the top and inscribed.
