A mid 19th century striking French mantel clock of small proportions, in the style of a Louis XVI design.

The striking movement is housed in a gilt drum supported on a patinated bronze lion, the original mercury gilding being in excellent original condition. The lion stands on a red marble plinth edged in ormolu beading and adorned with a gilt festoon and copper-coloured corner decorations. The red marble pediment has a gilt pineapple finial also with contrasting copper-coloured leaf.

The 8-day movement is signed for Vincenti and the backplate is further signed L.R. Brevete S.G.D.G.. The lever platform escapement is mounted on the backplate, and the movement has an outside countwheel striking the hours and the passing of the half hours on a bell.

3-inch white enamel Arabic dial signed Meusnier, Paris in red, behind a hinged bezel fitted with convex beveled glass. The rear door is similarly glazed.

Intricate gilt matching hands.
Overhauled and guaranteed for 3 years.
The movement is signed for Vincenti & Cie. with their silver award emblem won at the Paris Universelle Exhibition of 1855, and it would appear that all production ceased by 1870, so this clock dates between these years.
