A fine 18th century Kilij sword, as used during the Ottoman Empire.

It was in use from the early 17 C. and during more than 300 years well into the 20th C. The shorter version with deeply curved wide blade and ‘T’ spine, sometime known as Pala, is a later version and appeared in the mid 18 Century.

This Pala has a good watered steel blade of 26 1/4 inches long and incised with a cartouche. The hilt of classical form is made of silvered cross guard and rhino horn grips with bulbous pommel and silver grip strap. The wood scabbard is covered with the original leather with spiral brass stitching and mounted with chased silver locket and chape. Total length 33 1/2 inches. Very good condition.
Diameter 33.50 (13.19 inches)
