The antique chairs have been carved in the solid with tulips, shells, scrolls, knolls and elaborate leaf decoration. The rio rosewood varies in colour with the natural light and dark highlights working beautifully with the profuse carving. The recently re-upholstered drop-in seats stand on faceted turned legs. All the chairs are stamped with the maker's initials WB. The outstanding quality and overall design of the chairs is typical of Gillows work and they could even be 5 years earlier than stated because Gillow were very innovative and ahead of their rivals when it came to design.

NB William Barrow junior was the son of William Barrow senior and brother of John Barrow, also a cabinet maker. William Barrow became a freeman in 1837. The father and both sons worked with and for Gillows of Lancaster in the late 18th Century through to the mid 19th century.
The chairs are made and carved from solid Rio Rosewood. In top condition
