Rare small oak coffer or strong box, the exterior and the interior of the rising lid retaining the original painted decoration and the iron carrying handles.  The two front panels with painted words in cursive Gothic script probably copied from a page by an illiterate craftsman as the words are random. Westphalian, early 17th century. The iron brackets strengthening the corners are 19th century as is the lock escutcheon.
