| ZINKEISEN ROI |
Born in Kilcreggan, Scotland, Doris Zinkeisen was privately educated at home and studied at the RA Schools. She became a portrait and, as an equestrian champion, an equestrian and figure painter. She designed costumes and sets for the theatre, including reviews by Charles Cochrane and Noel Coward and, during WW2, she did stage work for the Old Vic Theatre. She was elected ROI in 1928.
In 1935, Doris and her sister Anna were commissioned by John Brown and Co Shipbuilders of Clydebank to paint the murals in the Verandah Grill of the famous ocean liner the RMS Queen Mary. Their work can still be seen on the ship, now permanently moored in Long Beach, California. |
