| GODWARD |
John William Godward was a London painter of classical figurative and genre scenes from the end of the Pre-Raphaelite era, which he exhibited at the Royal Academy regularly from 1887. He was much influenced by the work of Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema (1836-1912). After moving to Italy with one of his models in 1912, Godward’s family broke off all contact with him, even cutting him out of family pictures. He returned to England in 1919 and remained there until his death in 1922.
