This fine pair of antique porcelain plaques, the work of important Berlin porcelain-makers KPM, have been painted after self-portraits by the renowned Old Master artists Pieter Paul Rubens (1577-1640) and Rembrandt van Rijn (1606-1669). The original paintings hang in Buckingham Palace, London, and the Uffizi Gallery, Florence, respectively. The plaques are housed within matching carved giltwood frames, and a short text on the life of Dutch Golden Age painter Dirck Hals (1591-1656) is mounted onto the reverse of one, although this is seemingly unrelated to the plaques. The reverse of each plaque bears the sceptre mark for KPM.
