Charming pair of George III sauce ladles in the rare Onslow pattern.
Made by John Lampfert in London circa 1775.

Both shell bowls are extremely crisp and the Onslow finials are very well defined. The scarf join is visible on both spoons. A contemporary Scottish family crest is engraved on the reverse of the top of the stem. The motto or "battlecry" is engraved above the crest with the words "COR HONESTUM" (honest heart).

The full set of hallmarks is struck at the base of the reverse of the stem and while the maker's mark, the lion passant and the crowned leopard's head are legible, the date mark has been squashed because of the position of the stamp.

These sauce ladles are in mint condition apart from the squeezed hallmarks and would make an excellent gift.
