As a result of the massive influx of wealthy and titled men from Britain into Italy from the end of the 17th century onwards, the Italians were quick to introduce the manufacture of miniature souvenir models in brass, bronze, and marble, of buildings and artifacts from around Italy. They were to become mementos collected by these rich young nobles to be displayed in the grand country houses of England as a souvenir of their rite of passage spent in Europe.
