A PAIR OF LOANGA TRIBE CARVED IVORY BEAKERS
Congo Region, Africa
Circa 1900.
The pair of beakers, or vases, both carved with the same design, showing a figure harvesting a palm tree to the front face and a bearded male figure with one arm raised, wielding a machete in a threatening gesture, with his other hand around the throat of a figure lying on the ground, to the reverse, the beakers having shaped tops with line decoration, repeated to the bases.
The ivory in good condition.
