These delicately cast wall sconces were made in the 19th Century, after designs by 18th Century French maker Charles Cressent (1685-1768). Cressent was one of the most important furniture makers during the French Rococo period, under the rule of Louis XV. It is believed that he collaborated with Jacques Confesseur (c.1695-1759) in the production of the wall sconces, with Cressent coming up with the design and Confesseur responsible for the casting and chasing of the gilt bronze.

The present pair of three light sconces are cast entirely in gilt bronze as stylistically curled, scrolling branches laden with acanthus leaves. The branches lead to the three lights with drip pans styled as flower buds. Perched upon the lowermost branches of the sconces are naturalistically cast gilt bronze parrot models, which have trailing tails and outspread wings.
