A quirky pair of unusual late Regency - William IV period beech side chairs, of a rare 'bobbin-turned' design, influenced by the late 17th century fashion.

English, c. 1835

The square backs formed of turned uprights and top rails, above the trapezoidal seats, originally caned, raised on turned front and outswept back supports.

Gillows illustrate related chairs in their Estimate Sketch Books, folio 4002, dated September 25th 1833. Designs for 'turnery work chairs' also appear in William Smee’s trade catalogues in 1830's.
