D298. The highly unusual and rare feature of this carriage clock, which strikes and repeats on a bell, is the beautiful and interesting porcelain panels to the front and both sides; the birds and butterflies featured on them being overlaid with tiny glass beads which enhance and accentuate their decoration. It must be more than 20 years since we had a similar clock, however two are to be seen in our book on carriage clocks, figs 9-35 and 9-36.

Maurice and Company, the makers of this clock, circa 1890, are described by Allix and Bonnert in their book on carriage clocks, as very fine makers who were working at Rue Charlot 75, Paris. Their signature is on the backplate together with the clocks number 1189.
