Depicted déshabillé emerging from a stylised sunflower. The bust is inscribed C. Delpech re’d (sculptor) and was issued as a prize by the Art Union of London in 1855. The original Roman marble bust formerly in the collection of Antiquarian, Charles Townley, from whom it was acquired by The British Museum in 1805. Clytie, from Greek mythology, became jealous of her lover, the Sun God Apollo, who changed her into a sunflower so that her face would follow him across the sky. Condition good but some minor chips to the plinth base.
