Excellent quality late 19th Century anodised brass precision compensated Surveying Aneroid Barometer. The 4.5 in. [11.5cm] diameter engraved, silvered brass dial, signed by the maker and numbered 1643, with curved mercury Fahrenheit thermometer and rotating altimeter dial, registering up to 6000 feet. Applied adjustable magnifying glass. On verso is the “GCR” logo of the Great Central Railway Company.

Second son of the renowned Alexander Adie of Edinburgh, he established a highly successful business in London in 1846, specialising in marine and surveying instruments.
