Fine, early 19th Century inlaid mahogany Stick Barometer, with break-arch pediment over well engraved silvered brass register plate, signed by the maker and bearing mercury Fahrenheit thermometer and manually operated vernier slide, protected by glazed door. The trunk, edge moulded, ‘herringbone’ veneered and chevron banded, with exposed barometer tube terminating in turned hemispherical cistern cover inset with ebony and ivory roundel.

Eldest son of prominent member of the Italian immigrant barometer making community – also Paul, based in Holborn, London, who settled in England around 1790.
