Paul Maze was born in Le Havre, France in 1887, though later in life he became a British citizen and lived most of his life in London and Sussex. After the First World War, Maze took a studio in Paris where he made good friends with Andre Derain and Andre Dunoyer de Segonzac. He knew many of the major Franch artists of his day and it was Edward Vuillard who introduced him to the use of pastel. His first exhibition was in Nice in 1921 but soon after he moved to the UK. He held many solo shows during his life and was also included in mixed exhibitions alongside works by Bonnard, Matisse and Vuillard. His work is represented in the Tate Gallery Collection.

This painting is a pastel and is of his second wife Jessie, of whom he made many intimate studies. It is housed behind a double conservation mount in a glazed and gold rim frame. If the purchaser requires posting then for safety reasons the glass would need to be removed before posting.
