A fine English carriage clock in a rosewood veneered four-glass case standing on adjustable brass bun feet; the case rising to an ormolu carrying handle.

The two train fusée movement has a high quality compensated platform lever escapement, with maintaining power. The hours are sounded on a gong and there is a soft/loud control operated from the side of the case – a rare but sought after feature.

The gilt brass dial is finely engraved within and around the roman chapter ring. Both the dial and the backplate are signed by the maker.
* Payne worked in London during the first half of the nineteenth century producing many fine mantel and carriage clocks.
