The engine turned dial has Roman hour numerals and is signed by the maker between XI and I. The heart-shaped blued steel hands appear to be original.
The high quality gilt bronze case is finely cast in the French manner. It stands on four foliate feet and is surmounted by a smiling bearded figure at the top and below the movement at VI is a gilt griffin emerging from within the foliage. It is also signed Payne, 163 New Bond Street on the backplate.
