Charles Steuart was a Scottish painter of mainly landscapes. He was said to have been a Gaelic speaking Athollman and he and his brother, the architect George Steuart (d.1806), owed their patronage to the Duke of Atholl. He may have trained under the landscape painter James Norie (d.1757) who worked at Blair in Scotland in the 1750's. He painted decoartive landscapes of local scenery at Blair Castle 1766-78 and did others for Lord Bute of the scenery of Mountstuart and Luton Hoo.

Ellis Waterhouse, 'The Dictionary of British 18th Century Painters', p.359, 1981.
