A singular and very attractive mid-18th Century Stick Barometer, modelled on a long-case clock design, in original condition. The arched top, with three finials, over well engraved, silvered brass register plate, signed by the maker, illustrating two characters, depicting foul and fair weather, and unusually configured weather notations. The case, of finely patinated Cuban mahogany, strung in satinwood and inlaid with two well executed bold floral marquetry paterae. [Height, including finial, 104cm / 41in].


Clare was a noted clock and watchmaker, who worked from premises in Deansgate, Manchester from c1764-1802. He was succeeded by his son, also Peter.
