Fine, late 18th Century inlaid mahogany Stick Barometer; the large break-arch pediment, supported on side brackets, over well engraved and delicately decorated silvered brass register plate, signed by the maker. The plate, most unusually fringed by “rope-effect” stringing, bears Fahrenheit thermometer and manually operated vernier and is protected by unusually shaped glazed door, also rope strung. The trunk, edge moulded, ‘herringbone’ veneered and rope strung, with exposed barometer tube terminating behind turned cistern cover.

An accomplished Italian immigrant barometer-maker who worked from premises in Holborn from 1785 until his death in 1791.
