Early 20th century polo watercolour by Charles Simpson. The polo picture is of the 'West Somerset Polo Club' and shows a polo match in progress with six players being watched by a groom stood holding the reins of his horse. The watercolor is signed in the lower right hand corner by the artist.
Charles Walter Simpson, RBA, RI, ROI, RSMA, (1885 - 1971) was a British sporting painter, author and illustrator. Best known for his equestrian sports such as flat racing, steeple chasing, hunting, polo, fencing and carriage driving. He also painted a golf scene of a 'Golf Match at Prestwick' and was also a great painter of birds and animals.
