Popery the Religion of Heathenism: Being the Letters of Ignotus Published in 'The Times' Newspaper in the Conclusion of the Year 1817 with Additions Proving the Conformity Which Subsists Between the Romish Religion and the Religion of the Ancient Heathens.
xvi, -105pp, . Full straight grain morocco, semi-raised bands, spine in six panels, title in gilt to second and third panels, remaining panels with leaf and volute gilt decoration, covers with inner panel of blind roll and corner pieces with single fillet border, in turn framed by gilt roll, with triple fillet border, gilt roll to edges and inner edges, a.e.g. Slightly rubbed to extremities, internally quite bright and clean. From the library of Earl Eldon, with his bookplate and name to reverse of front endpaper. Presumably bound as a presentation copy to Eldon, the Lord Chancellor, the person to whom the book is dedicated (see pp iii-v). Poynder was a lawyer and a strong opponent of Catholicism, whose library was sold by Sotheby's over three days (See ODNB). Five locations on COPAC (not at Lambeth)
